It’s time to bid one of our favorite toners on the market farewell. Biologique Rechere’s P50 1970 toner has received such high praise from beauty gurus and celebrities alike, but in January, the brand sent out its last shipment of the product, and will be discontinued after they’re out of stock.
The reason the product gets such high praise also happens to be the reason they’re being discontinued. The toner includes a list of active ingredients like salicylic acid and niacinamide to help exfoliate the skin and balance out the hydration and skin tone. However, one of the key ingredients that helps remove blemishes and exfoliate is phenol, and it's rumored the FDA will prohibit this in skincare products because it can be irritating and toxic to the skin if left on for too long. Even though phenol is highly diluted in this toner, it was still flagged, so we have to say so long to this skincare favorite.
With that in mind, we still took our time researching products that include similar ingredients and have similar effects to that of Biologique Recherche’s P50 1970 toner. We’ve found a list of our favorite toners to share with you, so your skin doesn’t have to mourn the loss of this beloved product.
Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant - This toner is a cult classic for many reasons. Much like the one from Biologique Rechere, they include salicylic acid to help with any build up and blemishes. It helps with oil control so you don’t have to worry about using heavier or thicker products with active ingredients in them.
Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner - This one from the Ordinary is great if you’re looking for an alternative that helps with the texture of your skin. The use of Glycolic Acid, which is an AHA, focuses more on the surface of your skin to exfoliate and make the appearance more smooth.
Fat Water Niacinamide Pore-Refining Toner Serum - Fenty’s toner is a great alternative if you’re looking for something to control the shine. Instead of common chemical exfoliants, the inclusion of niacinamide as an active ingredient is great if you’re looking to control any excess oiliness and keep your skin looking hydrated and healthy.
Glycolic Acid Exfoliating Toner - Unlike the Ordinary’s toner, this one has a higher percentage of glycolic acid and the addition of witch hazel to help with oil control. This is perfect if you need something a little stronger to help with the appearance of your skin and if you tend to have oilier skin.
Weekend Glow Daily Brightening AHA Liquid Exfoliant - Versed is known for their sustainable and ethical approach to creating their products. Outside of this being a vegan product, its also focused on evening out your skin tone, leaving you with a bright and balanced appearance.
Deep Sweep 2% BHA Pore Cleaning Toner - Another vegan alternative, but with the addition of active ingredients like salicylic acid, this toner is a great option if you’re looking for a toner that helps deeply exfoliate, but is still lightweight on your skin.
