We’re moving away from the hot and humid days of the summer, into the dry and cool days of fall. If you’re anything like me, the seasonal changes end up taking a toll on your hair, which means it's time for a change in routines. Throughout the summer, your hair finds itself constantly fighting against humidity, UV exposure and excess heat damage, causing disruption to your cuticles. As it gets colder, this only makes your hair more prone to damage from the dryness of the season. As we get into this transitional period, it’s important to establish a routine to heal your hair from the hotter months and prepare it for the cold. Here are some of our favorite products you can either use to build out your own routine or include into one you already have.
Fable & Mane HoliRoots Pre-Wash Treatment Oil - Fable & Mane is known for their Ayurvedic approach to making products. This pre-wash oil works for all hair types and focuses on combating dryness or thinning hair.
Briogeo Scalp Revival Rosemary Pre-wash Hair Oil - Rosemary has quickly become recognized for its hair strengthening properties. This pre-wash growth pairs the herb with castor oil and tea tree oil to not only strengthen but soothe the scalp and promote healthy growth from the roots.
JVN Pre-wash Strengthening Treatment Oil - Another product that includes rosemary to promote healthy roots, however the addition of turmeric oil makes it great for people who are looking for anti-inflammatory products. We love this as a treatment for split ends and brittle hair from the dryness.
Bondi Boost Clarifying Pre-Wash Treatment - If you want to avoid oils but still want a treatment to clarify and detox your hair, this Bondi Boost treatment is a great option. The lactic acid helps exfoliate any build up, especially as you’re coming off the heat and humidity of the summer.
Bondi Boost Hair Thickening Therapy Shampoo & Conditioner - If cold weather pulls the volume out of your hair, this shampoo and conditioner combo is a great way to bring that back. The biotin and hyaluronic acid gives your hair a healthy glow while providing instant volume.
Verb Hair Care Ghost Weightless Shampoo and Conditioner - If you’re looking for a lighter shampoo and conditioner this is a great option. The moringa seed oil helps reduce frizz while sunflower extract is great for protecting your hair from UV rays. This is a great set especially if you dye your hair and want to protect the color fading.
Fable & Mane SahaScalp Purifying Scrub - If you’re looking for a scrub to exfoliate your scalp from any build up, which a lot of people are prone to in the hotter season, this is a great product for that. The wild ginger is great for purifying your scalp to help with any flakiness and deeply cleanse your hair follicles for healthier growth.
Ouai Hair Gloss In-Shower Shine Treatment - If you find your hair getting more dull in the colder months and drying out, it's worth investing in a shine treatment to use a couple times a week. This one from Ouai includes hyaluronic acid and rice water, one known for intense hydration and the other helps with growth while still keeping the hair light and not weighing it down.
GRO Scalp Massager - One of my favorite tools to help products absorb into my scalp in the shower is with a scalp massager. This one from Vegamour is great to not only distribute product into your hair, but promote blood circulation and stimulate your roots for healthier growth. This can even be used with products outside the shower.
Vegamour GRO Hair Serum - This is a personal favorite of mine and one that has slowly become a staple in my hair routine. The GRO serum is a super light serum that you can apply to damp or even dry hair to promote hair growth. If you're dealing with shedding and thinning especially, this combats that and helps grow out any thin spots on your scalp.
Olaplex No. 5 Moisture & Mend Leave-In - Dry weather leaves hair feeling brittle and a lot of the time that leads to split ends. If you’re more prone to that, this leave-in conditioner from Olaplex targets split ends and leaves your hair feeling much softer.
Kérastase Elixir Ultime Hydrating Hair Oil - If you’re someone who prefers using an oil to a creamy conditioner, this one from Kérastase is a great alternative to giving you softer more hydrated hair. It’s great especially for thicker hair types if you need extra or stronger hydration. It also works well as a heat protectant.
Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Oil - For those of you with different curl types and wavy hair, this oil is a great alternative. While Kérastase does work on curly or wavy hair, Olaplex’s bonding oil is more catered towards that hair type. In addition to treating split ends, it also helps with frizz control and acts as a heat protectant.
Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Heat Styling Spray - We love this heat styling spray for not just protecting the strands, but smoothening them as well. If your hair is already sensitive around this time of year, the direct heat damage from styling tools is only going to make it more brittle. This Living Proof spray is a great way to not only protect it but give it the instant healthy look.
Kérastase Genesis Heat Protectant Treatment - This is a hybrid between a heat protectant and a leave-in if your hair feels like it's on the weaker side. This is great if you want to treat your split ends while preparing your hair for the heat. This is also great for frizzier hair types.
Klorane Ultra Gentle Dry Shampoo - I usually grab for my dry shampoo bottle in the summer when I feel the heat getting to my scalp. But if you’re someone who wants to avoid frequent wash days to keep the moisture in your ends while trying to prevent build up in your scalp, this one from Klorane is a light and gentle option that works well in the colder months. The addition of oat milk is great for soothing your scalp while still absorbing any excess oils from your scalp.
