The world of fashion goes well beyond styles and aesthetics. We're slowly pivoting to a world where we're more aware of how our clothes and other products we buy have an impact on our skin, the environment, and general ethical practices involved in the manufacturing process. We've previously talked about this impact with our favorite non-toxic leggings, breaking down common issues that cheap fabrics can trigger in us. We also break down the different types of fabrics to look for on labels, including organic cotton.
When we think about anything that is organic, we naturally assume it's higher quality. In this case, we would think it has more to do with the texture of the cotton. But the truth is, organic, in this case, doesn't necessarily mean it's softer or more durable in all cases. While you can find varieties of cotton that yield softer fabrics and clothes, they are more rare and take more time to process and manufacture. With that said, there are still so many benefits to using organic cotton that yield more long-term results. These are mainly environmental impacts, since organic cotton is a low-impact crop and organic farming leads to healthier soil. In addition to that, while good quality cotton is rare to come across, it still leads to high-quality garments with lasting potential, but it's up to us as consumers to know how to take care of it. With that in mind, we've found our top organic cotton leggings and yoga pants if you're looking to invest in better and longer-lasting clothes that will benefit both you and the environment.
Organic Stretch Midi Legging - We’ve talked about our love for Mate the Label and their efforts to produce sustainable and high-quality clothing. These leggings are a great testament to that. The fabric has a good amount of stretch, and is soft and breathable. Not to mention, the mocha color is a great neutral color that works well with so many different skin tones.
Yogi Pure Organic Cotton Outfit - You can either order the whole set or just get the pants from Don Kaka's Yogi collection. Aside from the organic cotton and ethical manufacturing process, this set delivers on style. The contour lines on the set make for a really flattering silhouette while still keeping the comfort and simplicity of the look. While the website doesn't include extensive collections, one of their biggest values and their mission is to move away from the mindset of full closets and overconsumption of fashion, focusing on a few staple pieces. This minimalist mindset is great in the long run for both us consumers as well as the environment.
On The Go-To Cropped Bootcut Legging - If you’re looking for a pair that isn’t the traditional fitted leggings, these bootcut leggings are a different style to try for your workouts or as an everyday look. Like other products from Pact, you can expect high-quality clothes built with ethical practices in mind.
Women's Black High-Rise Legging - These leggings work great as a layer for your legs. If you're looking for a pair to wear under skirts and dresses or even under jeans for some warmth, this pair from Tentree is perfect for that. With that in mind, we recommend sizing up one. While the leggings do give a good amount of stretch, a lot of people noted it made it a little see-through if it stretched too much so sizing up gives you a little more room for that.
PlantTec™ Organic Crop/Petite Leggings - This pair from Happy Earth is great if you’re looking for a cropped length or are a petite girlie. As someone who is 4’10, I often struggle with legging lengths and either end up with a bunched-up hem or have an awkward fold. This one is perfect if you’re looking for a good full-length as a petite person. Another bonus is the use of non-toxic dyes, so you can enjoy all the shades they have available.
Core Leggings - These leggings from Organic Basics are the perfect lounge pair. They’re so soft and the high waist makes it look so flattering on all body types, but they really get high praise for being a good option if you’re someone who constantly shops for tall sizes.
Everyday Stirrup Leggings - If you liked the core leggings from Organic Basics, these are another great pair to try. The stirrup style makes it perfect as a base layer if you want to layer other bottoms, like skirts, and almost act like a more opaque and warm pair of tights.
Terrane 7/8 Tight - We love this pair from Toad&Co because who does love a fun floral print? A lot of people gravitate towards simple colors and basics, and while they’re fine, sometimes its nice to have a fun pair with a pattern. Aside from the slim fit and stretch, these pair also come with odor control so if you get sweaty on the move this is perfect.
Organic Cotton Leggings - We love shopping at Urbankissed because they champion all kinds of sustainable brands and products. One of our favorites is Muta’s organic cotton leggings. The brand is not only sustainable and ethical but is also female-founded. This is a great way to invest in smaller companies trying to make a big impact, and you don’t skimp on quality either.
RIB Organic Cotton Leggings - This is an alternative to the other Muta leggings. The ribbed fabric adds a nice texture, but we also love the navy blue color to give your closet more variety, but still looks sophisticated.
