With the new year often comes the need to refresh our whole look. Sometimes it's just a simple change of style, but sometimes we want to take it a little further with a more permanent change like a new hair do. I’ll admit, I’m guilty of either wanting to chop it off or change the color up — something that says new year, new me.

One of the best places we’ve noticed new hair trends are places like red carpet looks or just seeing our favorite celebrities inspire different styles to try out. We’ve done our research to find our favorite colors, styles, and brands so you can give yourself a new do this new year.

Cherry Cola Hair

The red hair shade of the year is Cherry Cola. It’s a fun look that styles well both curly and straight. Cherry Cola differs from other red tones with more burgundy or maroon undertones, which is reminiscent of the 90s and early 2000s trendy tones. Think of celebrities like Chappel Roan who have embraced and popularized this hair color and fully expect to see it on fans and others alike.

Blunt Bob

Pinterest

I’d be lying if I said chopping my hair off for a fresh start to the new year wasn’t on my mind. This year, we’re embracing a blunt bob, specifically one cut to your jawline. While short hairdos have always been around, this year we’re leaning into it more with the ultra short length. We saw the fresh cut on many celebrities during red carpets recently, styled in waves and curls as a nod to old Hollywood glam. Many have also opted for the more traditional style with the ends curled either in or out while the rest of the hair stays straight. Even with less to work with, there is still so much you can do with short hair.

Mocha Mousse

The Pantone Color of the Year is making its way everywhere, including your hair. Key traits of the color include a warmer and more subtle shade of brown. When coloring your hair, think of chocolate undertones and lighter shades of brown. We like this one from Madison Reed since the smoky brown reminds us of the subtle Mocha Mousse.

Side Part Layers

Pinterest

That’s right, Millennials, the days of the middle part will soon be behind us, or more accurately, swiped off to the side. The side part is slowly making its return, starting with a more dramatic flip over to one side or even with side bangs in some cases. The key is to cut your face-framing layers to fit eh asymmetrical hair look so you can keep the movement in your hair. To all the Millennials that were the butt end of a Gen-Z hair joke, fear not your time has finally come.

Heritage Blonde

Pinterest

In the last year, trends like the quiet luxury aesthetic and old money aesthetic were trending styles in fashion. When embracing this look for beauty, many have turned to the “heritage blonde” style. This cool muted blonde shade appeals to that vintage aesthetic a bit more by shying away from the brighter and bolder color. We love seeing this hair color styled with a clean '90s it-girl blow out or simply just kept long and clean.

Birkin Bang

Pinterest

Yes, you read that right. Instead of the Birkin bag, we’re now styling our looks with a Birkin bang. Inspired by the British-French icon, Jane Birkin, these bangs are softer and longer bangs that subtly part in the middle of the hair. They’re cut in layers that shorten as you can closer to where they are parted, much like curtain bangs. This paired with the mocha mousse hair will make for an effortlessly chic look this new year.
