Gazette Gal

It’s only January, but we’re already seeing a whole new set of manicures and styles through our Instagram and Pinterest feeds. As we’re scrolling through, we’re taking note of some of our favorite new trends for your nails, everything from our new favorite colors to designs and styles we’ll be seeing more of. Here are some of our favorite trends and we’ve included our favorite products below to recreate these looks.

Cat Eye Nail

Last year, we saw the surge of magnetic nail designs. Velvet nails took Pinterest boards and Instagram feeds by storm. Now we’re pivoting towards the Cat Eye nail, a revamped version of the velvet nails with a subtle diagonal line across the nail created by holding the magnet above the nail at an angle. The cat eye nails work great in shades of red if you’re looking for a sexy nail design for Valentine’s Day. Their magnetic glow also works great for more frosty looks in the winter months with grays, silvers, and light blues.

Colorful French Tips

Nothing is more elegant than a classic french tip. This year we’re changing things up with colored french tips. I’ve had my fair share of DIY french tip failures, and one of the best ways to overcome this is to invest in stickers to get more precise lines or even go straight to press on nails. If you’re bold enough to attempt it on your own, Olive & June’s Nail Art Set offers a range of basic colors with easy-to-use pens for more precise application.

Mocha Brown

Pantone announced its color of the year is Mocha Mousse. We’re keeping this mocha theme with our nail trends of the year as well. While black nails were the go to neutral color for the longest time, we’re slowly stepping away from that into brown tones. They’re a more subtle neutral color and pair so well with the quiet luxury aesthetic. OPI’s shade It Never Ends is the perfect match for the Pantone color of the year. If you want a much deeper brown shade that still has the same neutral tones, the shade You Don’t Know My Jacques! is a darker alternative.

Shades of Blue

Last summer, we loved the coastal grandma blues from head to toe to nails. This year, we’re opening up to the whole spectrum of blue shades. Navy blue and grey blue nails have been the newest favorites, especially in the early winter months. Olive & June’s BP is the perfect gray-blue shade for icy nails in the winter. If you want the more moody navy blue, Sally Hansen’s Midnight Drive is a very sophisticated shade to try out.

Soap Nails

During the holiday season, my Instagram feed slowly turned into endless scrolls of engagement posts, including none other than Selena Gomez’s. While fans adored the Taco Bell, ring, and overall cuteness of Benny Blanco’s proposal plan, many also adored her manicure. Simple soap nails are going to be the go-to look and work perfectly any time of year. The style focuses on clean nails, with a subtle tint and a glossy finish. We love the Manucurist’s Smooth Polish or Glamnetic’s Cloud 9 press-ons if you want to recreate the look.

Nail Art & Embellishment

This year we’re also embracing the “more is more” philosophy with our nails. Nail art and different embellishments will be picking up a lot more. This includes 3D nails, stickers, smaller embellishments—anything to make your nails pop. If you’re looking to be a more seasoned artist, consider getting a beginner-friendly tool kit and some sculpting gel. If not, press-ons and stickers will be your best friend, including some of our favorites down below!
