Fashion is a constant cycle of returning trends with a modern twist. We’ve previously loved the revival of many beloved trends, including the re-emergence of many 90s fashion trends in the fall and our new favorite comeback—the flare jeans.
The most recent trend we’ve seen as we scroll through our social media pages is the revival of neck scarves styled with our favorite outfits. This trend brings an Old Hollywood flare to modern fashion. At the beginning of 2024, we saw this trend first emerge with Scarlett Johansson at the White House Correspondents’ dinner in her Armani ensemble. Since then, this has been making moves into bridal wear and now in some of our favorite going-out looks.
What we love about this look is that it's the epitome of simplicity and elegance. There’s a strong sense of delicacy and femininity with the draped scarf, but these looks are often monochromatic and minimally styled so it still feels so effortless.
If you’re looking to recreate this look in your everyday outfits or going out looks, we’ve found some of our favorite ways to style this trend and key pieces to include in your wardrobe
A denim look is the easiest way to style a trend you’re not quite familiar with. A trusty pair of jeans can complete any look. Flare jeans, specifically, have made quite the comeback. Even before Kendrick Lamar’s viral pair from his Superbowl performance, the denim style was trending as the perfect everyday pair. Styling these two would make for a great night out look if you’re getting drinks with the girls or out for a date night.
Part of the Old Hollywood aesthetic was pairing these scarves with long gowns and dresses. If you’re looking to create this more formal and elegant look, pair it with more luxurious fabrics like silk dresses or even halter necklines and strapless dresses.
Another variation of the dress look would be with a matching set. Like I mentioned earlier, the style focuses on simplicity, so monochromatic palettes and sleek tailoring. Matching sets with long skirts would make for great vacation outfits, especially for the summer time.
Since these pants are reminiscent of that Old Hollywood glam, its only fitting we pair this style with capri pants. When I think of this look, I think of icons like Audrey Hepburn who created elegant looks with these bottoms. This is such a nostalgic look, but with a modern twist would make for a great day time formal look.
