Let’s face it: linen is in. We actually don’t think it was ever out. We’re sure you’ve seen the looks on TikTok — a Copenhagen-esque pajama style, a summer in Mykonos maxi. Linen is one of the most versatile fabrics that offer a beautiful texture and feel to any outfit. As the heat climbs higher and the rays get stronger, the answer to all of your worries is no doubt a linen bottom. Whether you prefer a wide leg style, tailored look, or free flowing midi skirt, linen has the ability to cool you off while protecting your skin from the harsh rays you might be wanting to avoid.
Although linen definitely has a lightweight feel, the material is exceptionally durable compared to other fabrics and doesn't pill over time. Linen can definitely be on the pricier side, but we think the investment is worth it; linen can make a home in your closet for a very long time because of its durability. In this article, we’ve listed some of our favorite linen bottoms ranging from flowy skirts, to tailored trouser shorts, all the way through to the beloved, casual drawstring linen pants. Your budget can be big or small; we want every girl to cop this summer closet essential.
We’re starting this look book off strong with a chic, partially pleated pant that you can dress up or down. The striped pattern is so precise that the design gives off an accentuated texturized look. A lot of linen pants have drawstrings rather than zippers, but this look is definitely more tailored than others and can be perfect for a summer office style or if you’re planning on having a night out on the town with your best girlfriends. Pair this with a blouse and blazer for a professional day look or your favorite corset bodysuit and a leather jacket at night!
L.L. Bean’s pull-on linen style is just perfection — we all know the Copenhagen pajama style is all the rage right now. A comfy, cute, pajama-esque bottom paired with a white baby tee and button up cardigan makes for an outfit that is “cool girl” and comfortable. The drawstring allows you to have the style loose around your hips or up around the waist. This style is definitely more for a morning affair; picture grabbing coffee with your friends on a calm Sunday morning reeling from a not-so-calm Saturday night.
Coming to one of the more boho styles on the list, we have the UO Mae Linen pair. You can see above that the model is wearing a bikini under the bottoms, which emphasizes that this pair is perfect for a beachy summer day. We already know linen is lightweight, so throwing this style on after baking in the sun too long lets you protect yourself while staying cool; and, the style looks superb with a bikini top. This style reminds me of playing mermaids from H2O (and it has deep pockets for your favorite lip oil.)
I personally love a good mini skater style skirt. This 100% linen piece is definitely giving coquette with the buttons up the front seam. It’s definitely more high waisted than what I’m used to (and the style nowadays is leaning towards low-rise,) but this piece paired with a milkmaid blouse or floral camisole gives off our favorite picnic-vibe. The skirt is fitted where it should be, and flowy everywhere else. It's breathable, lightweight, and adorable.
It’s not summer without a maxi — let’s make it linen. This straight-fit maxi from Stradivarius is drop dead gorgeous. It’s elegant, flattering, and most importantly, adjustable. This specific color of the piece is both sophisticated and sultry, can be dressed up for a summer brunch or worn with a fitted button down for a day in the office, and is effortlessly chic. Pair this style with flip flops as pictured or a strappy ballet flat. The linen maxi is minimalist without being boring and interesting without trying too hard.
These Uniqlo classic linen-cotton blend shorts are giving Indiana Jones, safari adventure, and “I love hiking.” I adore a good khaki moment, and this style is the perfect balance of a cargo-style and tailored look. The waistband is adjustable so you can avoid those harsh tan lines, but is pleated on the front to elevate the style while preserving comfortability. They offer this style in olive green as well, but we adore the beige as it can emphasize a golden tan (we got you.)
Similar to the L.L. Bean pants, we want to continue the Copenhagen pajama aesthetic. This pair of adjustable boxer shorts from Intimissimi come in this beautiful blue linen and are also offered in a white linen. The blue is definitely giving a coastal grandmother vibe that is chic and reminiscent of that “old money” aesthetic you keep hearing about on TikTok. I see this style as a perfect basic day short that can be paired with cute sandals or your favorite sneaker. Add a cute neutral tee and a linen button down and you have a comfy, effortlessly cute outfit for your morning coffee run.
We wanted you to see another tailored look, but this time with a straight-leg fit and more fitted than Everlane’s. These Mango trousers also have belt loops if you want to accessorize with a statement belt, or leave the style as is with a pair of sandals or ankle boots — it will look darling either way. White linen is classic and timeless; the tailored look in this color only emphasizes how effortlessly beautiful your outfit will look regardless of what you wear on top.
One of the more risky but necessary choices on our list: this beautiful patchwork ruffle midi from Anthropologie. Farmhouse chic is in (and if you haven't heard, you’re hearing it now). Likely best suited for a trip to the farmers market or a European summer, this high waisted petticoat style is gorgeous and it's all in the details. The floral meshes with the plaid in a way we didn’t know was possible, and the muted neutral gray and off white complement each other perfectly.
Anthropologie’s most classic item, The Collette, is offered in linen and cotton. The front pockets are a U-shape, offering a lot of space for your phone, lip balm, and keys. The style accentuates the length of your legs, and the wide-leg style is breathable and comfortable in the heat of the summer. We adore The Collette style because it balances out the shape of your outfit.
