There’s nothing quite like a summer in Europe: warm sunlight, cobblestone streets, and breathtaking landmarks ranging from cathedrals to age-old storefronts. Whether you’re lounging on the shore of the Mediterranean or attending vibrant cultural festivals, the European girl aesthetic is elegant yet casual, with a bit of boho mystique. The magic of this style lies in the details and we’re here to give you all of the fashion secrets to achieve the calculated yet carefree look.

Maxi Skirts

Nothing screams European Girl like a flowy maxi. Whether you prefer solids or florals, the maxi skirt is versatile and can be paired with a vintage tee, a babydoll blouse, or a simple camisole. In the heat of the summer, sometimes we just want a comfortable bottom that will leave our outfit looking effortlessly elevated. Pair it with a strappy sandal or chic sneaker (the possibilities are endless).

Block Heel Sandals

The block heel sandal offers a healthy medium of style and comfort (we think you’re getting the idea of this aesthetic.) A wider heel offers more support and stability than your typical stiletto or kitten heel but elevates your outfit when you’re not looking to throw on a pair of sneakers. This makes the block heel an ideal choice for long days strolling along cobblestone streets and visiting Insta-worthy sights. A summer block heel sandal would incorporate some wicker or straw materials to texturize your look. If that’s not your style, we recommend sticking to a neutral beige to emphasize a dainty bright or floral top.

Linen Button-Downs

Even on the hottest days, sometimes cover-ups are essential to protect your body from the sun’s strong rays. A linen button-down is a perfect outfit staple that will keep you cool and protected during the summer months. When it gets a little too warm for an extra layer, tying the button-down around your shoulders will make for a great accessory (and give you an additional chic golfer aesthetic you didn’t know you needed).

Crossbody Bags

It doesn’t matter whether you’re doing a summer tour of Europe or walking down the streets of your hometown — a crossbody bag is a must-have so you can keep your belongings safe and be hands-free of a clutch or mini shoulder bag. Crossbody bags are functional and fashionable (we call this the Double F). Keep your passport, wallet, and favorite lip balm protected and close to you at all times with a flattering crossbody.

Matching Sets

Matching two-piece outfits are perfect when you want to have the biggest bang for your buck. You can wear them together or separately, offering endless possibilities for outfit combinations. A matching set allows you to look put together with very little effort. The two piece sets trend every summer and will likely continue to do so because of the inherent cool-girl vibe they give off. You can stay casual with a neutral linen set or get fancy with a boldly printed tube top and bodycon skirt. Get the look below.

Delicate Jewelry

You can’t go wrong with a slim golden chain or delicate charm necklace to elevate your look tenfold. The idea is to supplement your statement pieces with an understated but elegant piece of jewelry to keep your outfit looking effortless and free-spirited. Delicate pieces transcend quick-paced fashion trends and can be worn day-to-day regardless of the time of year. Tip: small pops of color complement the color story of your outfit!

The Perfect Sun Hat

Block out the harsh rays while protecting your face in style with a swanky sun hat. We all know how important it is to protect our faces in the summer months, and a sun hat does just the job in addition to your favorite SPF. It can be a bit daunting when you don’t feel like you’re a hat person, but trust us — a hat is a necessity to look and feel your best when channeling the European Girl aesthetic.

Eyelet Swimwear

Eyelet is a staple pattern when channeling a boho-Euro vibe. It’s dainty and beachy — what else would you want out of a swim set? They cover what they need to cover, and in most cases, are much less constrictive than a spandex/polyester material. You should always wear what’s best for you, but consider shopping the eyelet style to see what you think. You might be surprised by their comfort levels!
