Gazette Gal

You're scrolling, minding your own business, when you come across a gal with lips so full and so perfectly shaded that you immediately assume one of two things: she was born like that, or she has a standing appointment somewhere with a very discreet building and a very good doctor. 9/10 times though, the actual answer is far less dramatic and far more affordable. It's a lip liner that makes lips look fuller & will have people asking you "wait, what did you do?"

We're talking about the Merit Signature Sheer Lip Liner. It's not flashy & doesn't come with a viral dance, but what it does do is make your lips look more like you have a great injector, which turns out to be a genuinely hard thing to pull off.

Most lipliners either go too orange, overly pink, or too "I'm wearing a lip liner and want you to know it"...and chances are, you end up with a hard, waxy outline that reads more coloring-book than covetable. It's the reason so many of us gave up on lip liner entirely somewhere around 2015 and never looked back.

We Tried It

The shade itself is the real win here. Brownstone is a warm, muted rosy-brown, more neutral than pink, that reads as your-lips-but-deeper rather than an obvious lip liner. It's the kind of shade that works whether you're running errands or actually trying to look like you put effort in, which makes it about as versatile as a daytime lip color gets.

We wore it through a full day, coffee, lunch, talking more than usual, and it held up. No feathering, no fading to a weird patchy outline by the afternoon, just a soft, my-lips-but-better finish that looked as good at hour six as it did on application.

There's also the small matter of it selling out repeatedly, which we don't love to admit sways us, but it's hard to ignore when a shade this specific keeps disappearing from carts. Consider it an early warning to stock up rather than wait until it's back on your list of things to track down.

How it Shows Up

Besides the actual wear, the way a shade shows up on varying skin tones is also an important factor. We tan in the sun, lose some color in the winter, and truth be told, it's inconvenient to have to buy a set of makeup for different times of the year. This one was made to work from fair to deep complexions & we're here for it.

If you've been on the fence about adding a lip liner to your everyday routine, this is the one that'll actually convince you it's worth the extra step.
