We’re nearing the end of 2024, which means we’re officially in the season where we get to enjoy our end-of-year recaps and capsules that summarized this past year and welcome the new one ahead. This, of course, includes the Spotify Wrapped Playlists and my personal favorite, the Pantone Color of the Year.
Pantone recently announced the color of the year for 2025, and it is none other than Mocha Mousse. This warm shade of brown is a simple and comforting tone we’re expecting to see more of in this upcoming year. The soft brown is meant to be a symbol of indulgence, comfort, and contentment. A simple yet versatile color, this shade of brown will quickly be the color of your wardrobe for this upcoming year, and here is how you can incorporate it into your looks.
If you’re truly looking to embrace the color of the year, the best way to do that is with a monochromatic look. Whether you’re going for a more casual look with a nice sweater and pants, or elevating it with a silk dress, keeping a clean and simple palette is a great way to style this color. And it doesn’t just have to be Mocha Mousse—consider including other shades of brown that compliment the color as well.
We’ve seen the revival of browns in the last few months as the weather cooled down. If you simply want to add a pop of this color to your look, jackets and coats are a great way to do so. It adds more interest if you’re keeping a neutral palette, and there are so many ways to play with texture and fabric if you’re adding layers. If you’re looking for something more warm and cozy, consider a cashmere or quilted coat, but if you’re just looking for a light layer maybe a cropped jacket.
A great way to make brown tones stand out is to pair them with blues or denim. I personally love this pairing as the colors contrast, but if they’re paired with the right shades and hues, they work really well together and make for a really interesting outfit. Since Mocha Mousse is warm and more muted, I think it pairs well with medium to darker washes, but it truly works with any kind of denim.
Seeing as how this shade is meant to be the color of the year, we’re thinking about how to style this for the warmer months. Spring and summer are the perfect time to break out the dresses and skirts, open toe sandals and light layers. Mocha mousse also lends itself well for the warmer weather with the warmer undertones. It pairs well with lighter colors like white or beige for neutral and timeless looks.
